Instead of grabbing for a jar of jelly, get out some fresh fruit and whip up this sandwich for a fun dessert. Use any fruit combination you choose. I used apples and raisins because apples are quick and simple to cook and hold their shape well. To serve, cut in half. Or, make this a little fancier by slicing off the crust, cutting it into fourths, and drizzle with a little warm peanut butter sauce for the perfect two-bite dessert.

Grilled Fruit & Peanut Butter Dessert Sandwich

Grilled Fruit & Peanut Butter Dessert Sandwich Ingredients Peanut Butter & Co. Old Fashioned Smooth or Crunchy peanut butter

1 tablespoon raisins
1/4 cup apple cider
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
1 apple, peeled, cored, and sliced 1/4 inch thick
2 teaspoons palm sugar
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
a pinch of kosher salt
4 slices bread, regular or gluten-free
4 tablespoons Old Fashioned Smooth or Old Fashioned Crunchy peanut butter, divided or more to taste

1. Put raisins and cider in a microwave safe bowl and heat for 30 seconds. Cover and set aside to let raisins plump.

2. Heat 1/2 tablespoon of butter over medium heat in a non-stick skillet big enough to accommodate both sandwiches. Add apples, palm sugar, cinnamon, and salt to skillet and cook until they’re just beginning to soften. Add raisins and cider. Cook until cider has mostly evaporated and sauce has thickened. Transfer apple mixture to a bowl and melt half of remaining butter in skillet.

Amy, this sounds yummy!!! I’m going to try it with some GF bread!

I was also thinking of making up the PB, apples, raisins, and sugar (because the combo sounds so good!) in one pot warming up till all is soft and using it with some GF pancakes!!! Our little man LOVES pancakes!

Amy, I am SO making suggestions to our kids that they might want to make these soon! They look so good!

I think it’s the perfect solution for cutting down on the sugar without kids knowing it. 🙂 And the recipe is simple enough that a 5 year old could put it together and feel like she was a real helper in the kitchen.

This looks absolutely scrumptious! I have been gluten-free and dairy free for a little over a year now and a peanut butter fanatic since I can remember (my mom has pictures of 3 year old me refusing to eat anything on thanksgiving except a PB sandwich lol) I am always looking for yummy recipes to try out that won’t hurt my tummy but still taste amazing and, of course, incorporate peanut butter if possible. I think that this is one of them : )
    Thanks for the yummy ideas!!
